Dunnottar Woods
Every spring, there’s a patch of woodland alongside the River Cowie in Stonehaven which seems to suddenly awaken from its winter hibernation and blossoms into a canvas of green and white. The wild garlic that carpets the forest floor here is so pungant, that you can smell it from the car park! On one sun-dappled lunch-break, I meandered through this garlicky bouquet looking for a classic springtime shot. Enjoying the delicate fresh buds of greens on the broadleafs, I settled on a ‘rule-of-thirds’ composition of wild garlic leading through to the sunlit daisies, all framed by two diagonal fallen trees.
